USSD Registration

Many HBCC providers do not own a smartphone. USSD lets them register from any phone, including basic feature phones, without internet.

Try it: dial *483*555# on the simulated phone on the right. The simulator mirrors the real Africa's Talking callback contract, with the same session and timeout behaviour you would see on a Safaricom, Airtel, or Telkom line.

  • • Sessions auto-terminate after 180 seconds (Africa's Talking spec).
  • • Each menu screen is constrained to 182 characters.
  • • Each registration creates a real pending member record.
  • • The Secretariat then approves it from the staff portal.

Production cost (real shortcode)

Africa's Talking shared 4-digit shortcode (e.g. *483*1234#): KES 10,000/month + KES 1.25 per session paid by the end user. A KES 5,000 infrastructure deposit is held with AT.
